Acne Treatment and Diet

by Angelique Jodein

Over the years you might have heard many rumors about the relationship between acne and an individual's diet. These rumors may recommend persons with acne to stay away from foods such as chocolate, French fries, soda pop, and junk food. Although for some individuals certain foods may trigger an allergic reaction or inflammation, there is an indirect link between the foods you consume and acne.

Food As an Acne Treatment Method

What you eat does influence what doctors call your endocrine system, and disturbance to this system can trigger disorders such as acne. The endocrine system is a control system of ductless glands that produce chemical "instant messengers" called hormones, which are carried by the bloodstream to various cells in the body, which interpret these messages and act on them. How the overall diet acts upon the endocrine system is getting more evident. Diets that are vitamin deficient, high in chemicals, low in fiber, or produce an imbalance of fatty acids are coming under analysis for the part they play in finding a natural skin care solution. It is a fact that groups that avoid consuming low glycemic index carbohydrates (elaborated sugars) have very little adult acne. It is suspected but not proven that sugars alter the endocrine system and insulin secretion.

The Right Food Shows How To Clear Acne

Fats always seem to be logically associated with acne. While part of this is true, oil doesn't play the only role in skin afflicted by acne. A diet low in fat will produce a less greasy skin, but it is important to remember that sebaceous secretion (skin's oil) doesn't cause acne. Oil, devitalized skin, microbes, contamination, and the adequate environment are together a known cause of acne . The consumption of animal fats, which contain hormones, and saturated fats cause skin oils to be more viscous, which can contribute to plugged skin. But not all fats are bad. There exist some healthy fats that actually help to heal your skin and give you a natural beauty with the healthy glow you desire. Omega 3 fatty acids, which are usually found in fish, are proven to contribute to your skin's health.

Fibers Help Maintain Healthy Skin

The consumption of sufficient soluble and insoluble fiber is known to regulate insulin production, which contributes to provide a healthy endocrine system. Furthermore the consumption of sufficient fiber helps to keep a healthy microbial environment in the digestive tract. Unhealthy microbes produce toxins which your body gathers and then eliminates through the lympahtic system, thereby ending up in your skin, where they attract water and pinch off your sebum glands, thus causing acne breakouts.

Various Causes of Acne

The action of our chemically contaminated world on human bodies contributes to many illnesses, including acne. Several chemicals that we ingest can depress our immune system, cause allergic reactions, and damage our organs. It is important to remember that our skin is the largest organ, and is essentially the protector of the internal organs. A lot of the pollution that your body absorbs comes through the pores, thus causing inflammation, imbalances in the skin, and microbes to proliferate out of control thus causing acne.
