Mesotherapy to Treat Cellulite

One of the more promising cellulite treatments to come along in recent years is Mesotherapy, which originated in France in 1952 and has gained popularity in the U.S. over the last decade or so as an alternative to liposuction

Despite hours of exercise and strict dieting, millions of women are plagued by cellulite, the dimpled, fatty deposits that are usually found in the thighs and buttocks. It’s a frustrating problem, especially for women who have worked hard to lose pounds and inches but can’t shed those unsightly saddlebags. The cellulite problem is particularly acute during the summer months when women may feel self-conscious wearing shorts or bathing suits.

Proponents of Mesotherapy claim that it is the only truly effective method for treating cellulite. Mesotherapy involves injecting a combination of drugs, vitamins and natural extracts into the mesoderm (the middle area of the skin), directly affecting the fat pockets. The formula reduces the fat in the cellulite, improves impaired circulation and breaks down damaged connective tissue. The fat is dissolved and flushed from the body.

Mesotherapy is actually a medical therapy that can be used to treat headaches, backaches and a broad range of illnesses and medical conditions. It can also treat cosmetic conditions such as acne, stretch marks, scars and wrinkles. The medicines used in Mesotherapy are FDA approved although Mesotherapy is not approved for treating cellulite.

The combination of products injected into the skin is tailored to meet each person’s needs. Treatments usually are administered weekly with visible results after a month. Significant reduction of cellulite and improved skin condition is evident after 10 or so treatments with patients reporting losses of four to 10 inches. Some women drop two dress sizes.

Results of the treatment, which costs around $2,000, are permanent, as long as the patient does not experience a significant weight gain. Mesotherapy is also used to treat cellulite on the abdomen, back and arms and can help men who have enlarged breast tissue (gynaecomastia).

Mesotherapy, invented by French physician Dr. Michel Pistor, is  widely practiced in France with more than 16,000 practitioners. Dr. Lionel Bissoon, who has offices in Palm Beach, Florida, Manhattan and Beverly Hills, is widely credited with bringing the technique to the U.S. in the late 1990s. One of his patients is singer Roberta Flack, who has raved about Mesotherapy.

“Ninety to 95 percent of my patients get results far beyond my expectations,” Bissoon said.

Bissoon cautions patients to be very careful in selecting a Mesotherapy practioner, since anyone can call themselves an “expert.” He says the technique should be performed by a medical doctor and that nurses or physician assistants should not be allowed to administer Mesotherapy with the doctor being patient. In addition, Bissoon says patients should know exactly what substances are being injected into their bodies.

What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a medical specialty, which involves injecting microscopic quantities of natural plant extracts, homeopathic agents, pharmaceutical agents and vitamins into the skin to treat a variety of conditions. The physician will select a formula customized to treat your condition. Mesotherapy can be used to treat or assist in a variety of conditions such as: cellulite, weight loss, spot reduction, and rejuvenation of the skin.

How many treatments are required?

Generally, the average patient requires approximately 10 treatments. However this will depend on the individual patient.

What are the side effects of Mesotherapy?
Side effects are generally limited to local bruising, local swelling, itching and irritation.

Are Mesotherapy treatments painful?
The majority of patients experience minimal discomfort with Mesotherapy. For those with lower pain thresholds, a topical anesthetic can be used.

How long do the benefits last?
Treatment areas will remain free of unwanted fat as long as the patient maintains a healthy diet and exercise. Treatments for cellulite and for mesolift will require maintenance on a six month to one year basis.

How many Mesotherapy treatments are required before I see results?
A. It depends on the patient's body. Some patients see results after one treatment session while others may require four to five treatments to begin to see results. Often the patient's clothing will become looser and friends and family will tell the patient they appear thinner. However, Mesotherapy is more about losing inches than losing large amounts of weight.

Is Mesotherapy different than liposuction and what are the benefits vs. liposuction?
A. Yes, it is very different. Besides involving no anesthesia and surgical risk, mesotherapy requires no recovery time. Mesotherapy also removes the fat from the fat cell without destroying it. We believe this helps give mesotherapy its natural appearance. Liposuction does not treat cellulite and in fact often ends up making the cellulite more prominent. Mesotherapy treats cellulite directly and the result is a smoother skin surface. Also, if you gain weight after having Mesotherapy, the fat will simply return to the treated area, unlike liposuction, where fat can start to occur in places that had been thin in the past, such as the arms, neck, face, and calves.

How does Mesotherapy work on cellulite reduction, weight loss and spot reduction?
Mesotherapy can target specific areas or spots where your body stores excessive fat. The customized formulas are injected in a specific area blocks the cells from storing fat and helps break the existing fat cells down. Your body then naturally flushes out the broken-down fat. Spot reduction can be used for double chins, love handles and any other area there your body pockets fat.

    stretch marks
To prevent pregnancy stretch marks, strengthen fragile skin, firm sagging breasts and body areas and reduce cellulite. It also works for newly formed stretch marks and scars, while BIOSKINEXFOL works best for old, rough and raised marks. This is similar to the cream in BIOSKINCARE, in a more economical container, with 6 oz. but for use only on the body, not on the face, because it contains a higher concentration of our natural biological complex which results in an invisible film that retains in moisture by occluding the area where it is applied but may feel a little tacky on the face.

ACNE, ROSACEA ™ SCARS - CLEAR SKIN BIOSKINCLEAR
An oil free moisturizer gel for acne, rosacea and facial scars. Heals lesions to the cells lining the hair follicles which is the root cause of inflammatory acne. Removes dead cells, unclogs sebum canals and dissolves scar tissues by enzymatic hydrolysis, without peeling. Promotes the proliferation of antimicrobials that control acne bacteria. Boosts reproduction of glycosaminoglycans, the molecules that retain water, thus truly moisturizing the skin from within. Tells the body it is being taken care off and can moderate an otherwise extreme inflammatory reaction that may end up destroying healthy skin cells and creating crater like scarring and not only the acne bacteria.
